Dear Parents and Guardians,

 

Some news and dates for the diary.

 

Teddy Bears Hospital UCC was attended by Junior and Senior Infants on the 19th of February.This event was free of charge and is provided to school’s by the Surgeon Noonan Society

 

Defence Forces Brass Band performed in the city hall on 20th February 5th and 6th attended.This event was free of charge.

 

History:An expert in Pirates and their part in our history will be in school tomorrow working with all classes from Heritage for Schools.Please bring in €1 towards the cost.This event is subsidised by heritage for schools.

 

Spend a day as a Secondary School student: 4th and 5th Class have been invited to South Presentation Secondary School to spend a day as a first year pupil on Thursday this week.

 

Parents Association Sponsored Walk in Tramore Valley Park will take place this Sunday 3rd March 12pm to raise funds for our school.All most welcome.

 

World book day is on 7th March dress as your favourite character from a book on this day – if you like.Our book fair will be on in school from the 6th -11th March. More details to follow.

 

Soccer training will begin in school for those who wish to take part in 1st-6th Class for now on 11th March.Parent Dave O’ Sullivan will facilitate.

 

Basketball 5 a side tournament will start in March for those that want to participate.

 

1st and 2nd Class are judges for this years KPMG Ireland book awards this year.

 

Spanish lessons with Mariana continue for all classes in school for a total of 8 weeks.

 

Active Schools:The school will undertake to run 1km per day in the month of March/April.

 

Green Schools: The committee will be presenting biodiversity projects to the school in the coming weeks. All classes will help to develop a slogan to support this award.

 

We will celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on the 21st March by wearing funky socks and purple if you wish. Please bring €2 to support DSC.

 

Well being Committee: Well being week is on in our school 18th – 22nd March our school’s well being committee are planning activities currently.

 

Our school will celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge 1-17th March.

 

Glucksman Art Gallery:All Classes attended the Beneath our Feet Art workshops in the Glucksman Gallery the cost was €4 each. The Beneath our feet exhibition will run from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th March, 10am to 5pm Thursday to Saturday and 2-5pm Sunday. The exhibition includes the artwork of over 800 young people including our students!

 

3rd and 4th Class have a free science explorers workshop on March 5th in the Lifetime Lab and another on the 11th April this workshop has a charge of €8 perchild.

 

School will be closed for use as a polling station 8th March.

 

Reminder: If you or anyone you know has a Junior Infant to enroll for the new school year please contact Annette in the office for relevant forms.

 

Knitting and Crocheting: 5th and 6th Class are almost finished with their projects with Brenda. 3rd and 4th Class will start shortly and we would appreciate any spare wool you may have at home.

 

Science Fair:Children in 1st -6th Class can pick any topic that interests them. They can bring their projects in on the morning. These do not need to be elaborate, what is most important is that the children have a good understanding of what they have done and are able to present it at their own individual level.Infants will be asked to make a simple musical instrument and explain how it works. All children can work alone or in groups.If you have any queries please get in touch. Please come in to visit on the day if you can at 12.30pm.

 

Hot Meals will be available free of charge for all pupils in our school from beginning on the 8th April. Please register with Ashdale using the attached form if you want your child to have a hot lunch in school.

 

TUSLA have asked us to make our school community aware that they are experiencing a shortage of foster carers in our area - more information to be found here https://www.tusla.ie/services/alternative-care/foster-care/

 

The Board of Management would like to offer a most sincere thank you for the commitment and hard work of our school's Parent's Association not just in their role arranging and supporting extra curricular activities for our children but also their sustained efforts in raising much needed funds for our school.We are also extremely grateful for the continued support the wider parent body gives to them year round.The Board would also like to extend their gratitude for the voluntary contributions made by families throughout the year which help to support the needs of the school.
